Emma Raducanu’s run at the HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club in London came to an end in the quarterfinals, where she was defeated by top seed Qinwen Zheng in straight sets, 6-2, 6-42.
Raducanu had shown strong form earlier in the tournament, securing victories over Cristina Bucsa and Rebecca Sramkova. However, against Zheng, she struggled to maintain momentum, despite briefly leading 4-2 in the second set before dropping four consecutive games. A medical timeout for back treatment in the first set also seemed to affect her rhythm.
Zheng, the WTA World No. 5, delivered a commanding performance, landing five aces and winning 74% of her first-serve points. After the match, she praised Raducanu, predicting they would face off many more times in the future.
Raducanu will now shift her focus to upcoming tournaments, including the Berlin Open and Bad Homburg Open, as she aims to secure a Wimbledon seeding.
